DESCRIPTION:Giovanna Riccio and George Elliott Clarke will read their poetry before an 
 open mic segment for anyone that would like to share their work.\n\nGiovann
 a Riccio is a prize-winning poet, book reviewer and teacher who thrives on 
 scholarly pursuits. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto where sh
 e majored in philosophy. Giovanna is the author of Vittorio, Strong Bread a
 nd Plastic's Republic which was a finalist for the 2022 Bressani Prize. \nG
 eorge Elliott Clarke is the 4th Poet Laureate of Toronto and the 7th Parlia
 mentary/Canadian Poet Laureate, as of 1960 Clarke is also a pioneering scho
 lar of African-Canadian literature, with two major tomes to his credit:  Od
 ysseys Home: Mapping African-Canadian Literature and Directions Home: Appro
 aches to African-Canadian Literature. A professor of English at the Univers
 ity of Toronto, Clarke has taught at Duke, McGill, the University of Britis
 h Columbia, and Harvard.  He holds eight honorary doctorates, plus appointm
 ents to the Order of Nova Scotia and the Order of Canada at the rank of Off
