SUMMARY:Alien Invasion: Gardening with Alternatives to Invasive Species
LOCATION:Grimsby Public Library\, 18 Carnegie Ln\, Grimsby
DESCRIPTION:Alien Invasion! Our native creatures need native plants but so much that is
being grown is not from this area. In some cases, these plants are out-com
peting our native species making it difficult for our native wildlife to su
rvive. This presentation will help you to spot invasive plants in our garde
ns and garden centres and provide you with suggestions about what to plant
instead.\n\nLiz Benneian has been leading environmental advocacy and educat
ional organizations since 2004. Currently, Liz is executive director and ma
nager of Environmental Education for Ontariogreen Conservation Association,
a charity dedicated to providing environmental education in classrooms and
communities. Liz is also the chair of Biodiversity and Climate Action Niag
ara, a collective of groups that advocate for good urban planning and sound
environmental and climate policies and legislation at all levels of govern
ment. Earlier this year, Liz was the recipient of Niagara Region’s inaugura
l Environment Award. In recognition of her dedication to preserving and enh
ancing the environment, Liz has also received local, Provincial and Nationa
 l awards.\n
